The ADI Part two Ability to Drive test lasts for approximately 60 minutes and consists of 2 sections that must both be passed in the same attempt. The test assesses if your competency level of driving is high and confident. You have 3 chances to pass the Part 2 Ability to Drive Test.
The first stage of the test involves your eyesight in which you must be able to read in daylight, a registration number that contains both letters and numbers.
Here are the following distances:
- 26.5 metres for vehicles with a new-style number plate
- 27.5 metres for vehicles with an old-style number plate
If you fail the eyesight test it will be counted towards one of your attempts.
You will be asked 5 Show Me, Tell Me Questions before getting into the car.
For each question you get incorrect, you will receive 1 minor fault
The practical part will last approximately 60 mins and will include the following:
- Turn in the road
- Reverse to the left
- Reverse to the right
- Parallel park/Bay Park
- Independent driving
- Emergency stop
The ADI part 2 test is also different from the learner’s test because you are only allowed up to 6 minor faults over the course of 60 minutes.
The examiner is looking for the following skills during the 60 minutes of driving:
- Expert handling and control of the vehicle.
- Concentration and anticipation of other road users.
- Demonstrate good following distances and use of speed.
- Follow road procedures.
- Safe driving and consideration to other road users.
- Follow the rules of the road and highway code at all times
